Mobilisation Techniques

Mobilisation refers to a range of gentle, manual techniques applied to joints and soft tissues to improve mobility, stimulate healing, and reduce discomfort. These techniques are essential in restoring function following injury, surgery, or chronic conditions.

Soft Tissue Mobilisation (SSTM)

Soft tissue has an inherent tensile strength, but when subjected to forces beyond its tolerance, injury may occur. Specific Soft Tissue Mobilisation Techniques (SSTM) aim to support and enhance the healing process through carefully applied movement and loading of affected tissues. These methods are particularly valuable during the regenerative stage (typically 5 days to 12 weeks post-injury) to restore function and resilience.

Massage Therapy

Massage helps alleviate muscle tightness and spasms caused by microtrauma or fatigue. Depending on the therapeutic goal, different types of massage can aid healing, improve circulation, break down adhesions, and support lymphatic drainage. It’s often used both preventatively and during the healing phase.

Passive Mobilisations

These are gentle stretches used to maintain or improve range of motion in joints — spinal or peripheral — particularly useful during rehabilitation after bone or soft tissue trauma. They also stimulate muscle tone and flexibility.

Joint Mobilisations & Manipulations

Targeted techniques for addressing stiffness and dysfunction in spinal and peripheral joints. Mobilisations are low-force movements aimed at correcting restricted joints and reducing pain. Manipulations involve higher-force adjustments (typically of spinal vertebrae) used when joints become misaligned, affecting muscle balance and ligament integrity.
