Rehabilitation
Rehabilitation is a structured and progressive approach to restoring strength, coordination, and mobility following injury, surgery, or chronic conditions. At DYG Physiotherapy, rehabilitation is tailored to each individual animal, combining physiotherapeutic knowledge with proven exercise strategies to support healing and return to normal or enhanced function.
Common Techniques Used in Rehabilitation:
- Hydrotherapy: Use of pools or underwater treadmills to safely build muscle strength while minimising joint stress.
- Proprioception Training: Exercises like wobble board work or walking on textured surfaces to re-educate the body's sense of joint position after ligamentous injuries.
- Stability Equipment: Incorporation of tools like stability balls and foam pads to challenge balance and improve neuromuscular control.
- Core & Abdominal Exercises: Designed for spinal conditions or muscular imbalance, promoting trunk stability and functional movement.
- Gait Re-education: Graded exercises that retrain walking, loading, and weight-bearing capacity after injury or surgery.
- Terrain and Gradient Training: Exposure to varied surfaces and inclines to build confidence, joint control, and performance readiness.
All rehabilitation programmes are individually assessed and monitored by Donna a Chartered Physiotherapist with animal-specific training. Whether the goal is post-operative recovery, neurological stability, or athletic reconditioning, exercises are progressed safely to achieve optimal outcomes.
